The Importance of Clean Gutters

With leaves turning brilliant red, golden yellow and tangerine orange, fall is a beautiful time of year. Unfortunately as the season progresses, these same fallen leaves end up collecting in gutters and becoming stuck, blocking waterspouts. The leaves then start to rot over time, emitting an unpleasant smell, and when rain or snow arrives, your gutters stop functioning properly due to blockages.

GUTTER CLEANING TIPS

  • Sturdy ladder. This is perhaps the most important tool for gutter cleaning. You’ll need a ladder that doesn’t wobble and is tall enough to safely get on top of your roof.
  • Appropriate clothing. Adjust your clothing to the temperature of the day. However, Mastershake recommends wearing a long-sleeve shirt to protect your arms as you lean on the  roof, long pants to protect your knees and gloves to protect your hands from the harshness of the leaves and any other rogue materials.
  • Scoop out the leaves. Remove as much of the leafing material as possible with your hands and place it into a bag for disposal.
  • Flush your metal roofing gutters and spouts. Use a simple garden hose to remove the remaining tidbits in and around your gutters and spouts, ensuring your spouts are clear as the water flows down.

Gutter cleaning is not difficult; it’s just dirty, tedious work. But it’s worth the effort. Clogged gutters can result in water damage to your roof and possibly your foundation. Besides, no one likes water falling on top of them when it should flow seamlessly to the side.

If you absolutely despise cleaning your gutters, you may want to invest in gutter guards or mesh screens, which will keep out dirt, debris and leaves.

THE MASTERSHAKE DIFFERENCE

Metal roofs are superior because they lack the texture of shingles, inhibiting leaf collection and eliminating leaves naturally. Due to the nature of metal, leaves are more likely to fall, blow off or be washed away due to  precipitation.

Ultimately, the quality of your roofing material affects the quality of your gutters. When you have a resilient, tough roofing material such as metal roofing, you don’t have to worry about water leaks or damage during minor storms. You can rest assured that your home has superior moisture protection from the elements and the best insulation. Meanwhile, our cross-strapping creates air spaces, which form an excellent sound barrier.

Mastershake offers a proprietary roofing product that beats all other roofing materials. We offer a lifetime warranty on our roofing product for 50 years. Contact us today for details!
